Corowa 20 NovemberAfter a late start due to rain only two intrepid riders departed Macca’s heading for the Corowa Whisky & Chocolate factory on what was the last Ulysses ride for the year. The rain had all but cleared by Collingullie with the road dry on arrival at Lockhart and even the sun had made an appearance of sorts by the time Corowa was reached. A nice lunch at the Whisky & Chocolate factory and a look at the old photographs lining the walls then it was back on the bikes for the trip home. All in all a quick trip due to the low numbers attending but none the less a pleasant day out. Yarrawonga Wander 5-6 NovemberA group of diehard party animals, (sorry Ulysses members) met at Macca’s at 8:00 am 5th Nov to make their way to Yarrawonga for the weekend. It was very pleasing to see Mary back on her beloved Monster after such a long break. We headed to Culcairn via Mango where we stopped for a short while whilst we perused the local bric a brac stalls. Back on the bikes and down to Howlong Bakery for a planned rendevous with the “Sleepy Head Purvis people” who thought that an 8:00 am start was totally “not the right thing” for respectable Ulysses members. After partaking in some fine pastries etc, we made the short run to Yarrawonga where Mr El Presidente and Mrs El Presidente were waiting for us at that fine establishment, Burkes Hotel . All booked in and gear packed away, it was time to find a suitable lunch venue. Fortunately for us Brett had done quite a bit of snooping and had found a shop that was “very, very, very, very , very good” so we headed off to sample the delights on offer. He was right!!! A leisurely stroll then followed and an ice cream shop was the next stop. Well done Sue. The afternoon was wiled away with talk of all the important stuff that needs to be discussed (and some serious snoozing from a few). Really, we don’t need a Government as we had all the important issues solved in the time that it takes to empty a “six pack”. Brett had again done some investigative work and had us organised with a courtesy bus to the (not so) spectacular country and western show at the local RSL where we saw Wagga Identity Grant Luhrs singing (among other things) a song request from Les of “Nude Boot Scooting”. We also heard another group called the “Lindsay Butler Showband with feature artist Amos and also Shazza” According to Shazza, the Lindsay Butler Showband are the “premium country music band” in the country, however a quick “snap poll” done amongst the Ulysses members present, did not necessarily agree, oh well, you cant always get it right. We headed back to the hotel for some serious chain sawing (snoring). Not sure who was best (loudest), but there were some very good efforts, honourable mentions go to all the men who attended. Sunday morning saw some a little bleary, however a lovely cooked breakfast soon had us firing. Neil and Terry even ended up with the frying pans as souvenirs, (You need to ask them about that). The day was starting to become quite warm, so a decision to get home sooner rather than later was made and we headed home. This turned out to be a wise move as the weather deteriorated as the day wore on and we were all home before any really nasty storms hit. ![]() In all, 10 members made the trek and although this was fewer than anticipated, we all had a fairly good time. The next time we head down, we will make sure that the Country music weekend is potentially on another weekend. |
